seo tips

Creating great articles is an excellent start, but should extend to content optimization for SEO and with compliance to the evergreen concept. This second dissertation of SEO Just for You will discuss how to create page content so that you will perform well in search engine page results (SERP).

Unique Page Titles
The first step is to make sure that each page on your website has its own unique page title. A title is a 70-character-long sales pitch of what your content contains. We say ‘sales pitch’ since you want to use it to lure visitors to your website. For this article, we will use a website dedicated to selling hats, part of the fashion niche. The site is called Fabulous Hats.

Recommendation: Although you have 70 characters, try to stay between 50 – 55. The shorter tags are more presentable within the SERP.

Your title tag could look like this ‘Fabulous Hats – find hats for every fashion’, or, sliding more to a specific group, ‘Fabulous Hats – Finest hats for today’s fashion’. You could add a push to your sales by including the word ‘free’ in the title. ‘Fabulous Hats – Find the finest free hats for today’s fashion.’

The first two title tags are short and to the point. They leave no doubt that you are a hat store. The second example allows you to stay evergreen, that is, no matter when the search is made, the reader will follow your time stamp ‘today’. Making your SERP result relevant.

The third tag carries a sales pitch directed at winning the client in that 3-5 seconds, a time span that online shoppers tend to use to make a decision. However, it maintains compliance with the evergreen concept and stays within the 55-character bracket. You can read more about evergreen content here.

Support Your Page Title Tag
Most people forget to add boosting verbiage to their titles and so do not get better SERP responses. When you create a document, one of the best ways to support your title tag, is to add supporting headers to your documents.

Start by diving your article into at least three sections, each having a similar title word to support your title. Think of them as supporting actors, they are there to improve your search engine rankings. Let’s use an example that your article is about Hawaiin-made flipper hats.

Your first subtitle could be aimed at enhancing two of the four keywords that you used in the title ‘free and fashion’ and my look like this.

Recommendation: Try to stay within the 50 – 55 character limit. ‘The best free Hawaiian flipper hats that fit today’s fashion.’

You can do two or three subheaders, making sure that the content within the subsection expands on the title. Most WYSIWYG software allows webmasters to create effective Title Tags from the user console.
Make sure that you keep abreast of the keywords that you mention in your subsection, trying not to exceed the recommended maximum of two times per 250 words. That would be once in the subtitle and once in the content.

The next article will investigate the importance of the meta description and how to write it.

  1. SEO plays an important role in ranking a post on Google or other search engines and truly a perfect title is essential to lure visitors. The next and equally essential is proper subtitles, as mentioned in this article. However, isn’t it better to repeat the title as a subtitle once in the article?
